    Here are some of my favorites. The distinction with these players is that they have not made it to the Hall of Fame. Heading the list of “Close Cooperstowners “ are Andre Dawson, Jim Rice, Joe Jackson, Goose Gossage and Dave Parker. Each one of these athletes had great careers, full of worthy statistics that compare quite favorably to many of the incumbents.

Around March 15, 1964 was when practice started. The first day of tryouts could not have arrived quickly enough. The season started in the gym. The weather was too cold for outside baseball.
