No Replacement for the Picnic Table
Author: Kathy Moran

In this country, we really take our outdoor living seriously. Seriously. Some of us are miserable at any time of the year that we can’t be outside playing, working, and eating at our picnic tables. Since most areas of the United States are inhospitable to that kind of lifestyle for most of the year, that’s quite a chunk of time. So, we spend the winter holding fond thoughts of those few golden months when nature smiles, and pining for their return. One of our favorite ways of making it through the harsh weather is anticipating all of the outdoor activities that lie ahead, when summer returns; and it’s no surprise that barbecues are at the top of our lists. However, if you happen to be one of the millions who is looking forward to the holidays, birthdays, graduations, and family reunions to come, remember that there’s more to plan on than just the guest list and the food. Before you fire up a grill that’s been sitting idle for months, after a season of constant use, make sure that it’s in good working order. After all, you don’t want a grill crisis popping up, just as a bunch of hungry guests are waiting for a sumptuous barbecue. Now, there are little things that can go wrong, and big things that can go wrong. That reminds me – ever hear the one about the guy who jumps out of a plane, only to find that his parachute won’t open? Well, as he’s plummeting to earth, he’s stunned to suddenly see a guy being propelled upward at warp speed, headed directly toward him. As the upward-traveling guy goes shooting past, the hapless jumper shouts, “Hey, do you know anything about parachutes?” The helpless missile-man replies, “No! Do you know anything about gas grills??” Hah! That one always kills me! But, I digress... Anyway, most of time when there’s a malfunction involving a grill – gas or charcoal – it’s something minor, such as a part breaking. Luckily, you shouldn’t have too much trouble fixing it, as larger hardware stores usually carry replacement burners, lighters, control knobs, grates, and other components. Just remember to take the broken part with you when you go to shop for the new one; or, at least, know what size it is. Although it is also helpful to have a model number, you may be able to get away without it in some cases, as many of the replacement parts are universal. Of course, next to the food, the star of the show at any cookout is your picnic table; and, if it comes from AllPicnicTables.com, it won’t need any replacement parts. In fact, when you choose one of their decay-resistant wood, or virtually indestructible metal or synthetic tables, you may never even have to replace your picnic table.
