Having Trouble Sleeping In Your Own Bed
Author:
Mike Tully
Insomniacs rub your eyes, sit up and take notice. It may not be money worries, or family issues, or career prospects that make it difficult for you to sleep in your own bed. It could be far simpler than this, and perhaps more easily rectified. Buy a new bed!
Research has shown that too many of us are sleeping in something that should have been put on the tip years ago. It is true that mattresses are the biggest culprit overall. Let’s face it we lie on the mattress that lies on the bed! Nevertheless the frame or divan base itself could be at fault too.
A bed is a bed, you might be tempted to say. This is no truer than saying a car is a car. There are many types of bed, of differing quality. The days when a bed was something you kept for a lifetime, something you left someone in your will, are long gone. Nowadays beds come from all corners of the world, and are made in a variety of materials. There are bed frames which can be manufactured in wood. Some of these beds are made from pine wood, or beech, or oak. Bed frames are simple, usually inexpensive items. Although you can pay a lot of money for a bespoke bed frame made from quality materials.
Some bed frames are manufactured in metal, and can be very minimal and modern in design. Or they might be wrought with intricate, flowing lines, perhaps painted or anodised, or even left in their natural state. The brass bed frame is a famous example.
Even the Far East became involved with the introduction of the Futon bed frame which hit the headlines some years ago and virtually became a fashion accessory. So you see, bed frames are versatile, simple and can be a great way to enhance the style and look of your bedroom.
Then there is the more elaborate, and one might say, luxurious sleeping apparatus…the Divan bed. Not a bed frame as such, but still built on a framework, with inner springs for comfort, and topped by a sprung mattress. Like the bed frame there are numerous styles and examples of the Divan. They can be reasonably inexpensive, made from fairly standard materials. Or they can be extremely sophisticated, created from fine silks and cashmere, and stitched with gold thread or silver.
Divan beds are a completely different animal when compared to the wood or metal bed frame. But it is well worth bearing in mind that there is no one way to achieve sleeping comfort, and whether you go for a Bed frame or Divan bed, It still requires a degree of thought. Go to your local bed shop. Look at the range of bed stocked there and ask for advice. Someone who knows his trade will be able to steer you in the right direction.
Remember, the mattress is key to your good night’s sleep whatever type of bed base you decide upon.
