Gazebos Support Alternative Lifestyles
Author: Kathy Moran

Like thousands of others, you may find yourself in need of some extra space to use as a home office, or simply a place to enjoy a bit of solitude. Whether you’re thinking about building an addition, remodeling a spare room in your home, or fixing up a room in an outdoor structure, such as a garage or an enclosed gazebo, you may be wondering what kind of paint to use. If you’re confused by all of the choices you have to contend with, you’re in good company, as people everywhere are puzzled about the differences among, flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and gloss paints. So, just for starters, remember that flat paint creates a matte finish, with no sheen, shine, or shimmer. If it sounds dull, it is; but its inability to reflect light is somewhat advantageous, in that it disguises minor imperfections. Unfortunately, flat paint is less durable, more porous, and harder to clean, than glossier types. Because of this, it is more supportive of mold and mildew growth, so it shouldn’t be used in high-humidity rooms, such as bathrooms and kitchens, or rooms in backyard structures that aren’t insulated, unless it has an additive that kills mildew. Just a step above flat, eggshell has only the slightest hint of luster, but can add a bit more depth and warmth to a room. Easier to clean than flat paint, it still keeps flaws from being too conspicuous, and is less attractive to mildew. Satin paint is smooth and somewhat shiny. Ideal for high traffic areas, including kids’ rooms, it’s much more durable than flat and eggshell varieties. Satin paint is very easy to wipe clean, and can even take some light scrubbing; and, because it repels mold and mildew, it’s great for use in bathrooms and kitchens as well. Semi-gloss paint is used mostly for trim, doors, and bathroom and kitchen cabinets. Its beautiful, glistening finish is extremely durable, and easy to keep clean. Although proper preparation is important before any paint job on any surface, it is especially crucial with this highly reflective type of paint, as it will draw attention to even the slightest blemish. Gleaming, glistening gloss paint is rarely used on interior walls, but makes a striking accent on trim, wainscoting, cabinets, and some pieces of contemporary furniture. It can also give a home a stylish, welcoming aspect, when it’s used to paint the front door; but the darker the color, the more formal the look. Because this kind of paint will spotlight every imperfection, however, wherever, whenever, and if ever you use it, be very sure that whatever you’re using it on has no flaws whatsoever. Of course, if you really want a change of scenery, without making a drastic move, go to GazeboCreations.com, and get yourself a gorgeous cedar, treated pine, or vinyl gazebo.
