Finding the Right Perfume for You

Few people actually realize the impact that wearing the right perfume has. Everyone has a different natural body odor, so the same perfume mixed with one person’s scent will smell differently than when the same perfume is applied on another. This is why it is important to take some time and not only learn about the different perfumes that are available but also which work best with your particular body chemistry to maximize the perfume’s potential.

What is Perfume

There is only one real definition of perfume. Perfume is a mixture of aroma compounds, essential oils, solvents, and fixatives that are used to give the human body a pleasant smell. Perfume is also used to enhance the smell of living spaces and/or objects.

The exact formulas of all commercial perfumes are kept secret. Even if the formulas were public knowledge, because of the ingredients and the complex chemical procedures the formula would be little use in describing the scent it creates. Some connoisseurs of perfume have become skillful at being able to identify the origins of scent and other components, much like an expert wine-maker. Perfume may be described according to its concentration level, the family it belongs to, and lastly the notes of the scent.

Try Them Out

Once you have learned about a few different perfume types and what they smell like, it is now time to see what the scents smell like on you. There is only one way to find this, out and that is to actually try them. Typically there are testers available at perfume counters so you can test each individual scent on yourself. You will not be able to try more than a couple of scents, because the more you use the greater the chance is they will mix with each other, and you won’t get an accurate scent. One tip to remember is that most perfume counters should have a small cup of coffee beans, for taking a deep whiff of the coffee beans after you smell a perfume clears your sinuses so that you will get an accurate scent from the next perfume.

Don’t immediately say no to trying the cheaper brands. There are many low-priced brands of perfume that have a fabulous scent and last all day, just as there are some high-priced name brands that are so strong it makes you wonder who would or could wear it. It shouldn’t be about the price when you’re trying to choose the right perfume. You never know, a twenty-dollar bottle of perfume may smell better on you than the eighty-dollar bottle you were looking at.

Bring a friend with you. Not only will you have someone there who can give you an honest opinion of whether or not a scent suits you, but you can make it a fun girl’s day out.

Another great tip for perfume wearers it more is never better. One or two sprits when applying is plenty.

Saving Money

Once you have decided which perfume works the best with your natural scent, don’t just rush out and purchase it from the nearest store. Perfume is one of those items that you will be able to find on sale. There are times when cosmetic counters have a gift-with-purchase promotion that is available with certain perfumes. You may get lucky and go home with more than just the perfume you went for.

Regardless of where you get your perfume or what scent or brand you choose, the most important thing is that the aroma mixes naturally with your own body scent and that you are happy with the results.
